Lately, the focus of Dubai hotels was on foreigners who were coming in droves to visit the sights and sounds in Dubai. This trend has been slowed down due to the financial crisis badly affecting the western world. The new focus is to catch the local or visitors coming from Gulf regions. As UAE’s economy in general and Dubai’s economy in particular are picking up their pace, the consumer confidence is slowly reviving. This has lead to increase in demand for shariah-compliant hotels.
The Landmark Hotels Management Group is planning to launch 10 new Shariah-compliant hotels all over the UAE. These ten hotels will be on the world class hotel standards. As the Shariah-compliant hotels demand is increasing in Dubai and UAE, the company wants to take the advantage of being able to provide the best services to its Muslim as well as non-muslim customers in these hotels. The hotel management says that basic Islamic principles will be practiced in operation of these hotels such as an alcohol free environment, serving halal food, and some percentage of the profit will be donated to charity. The company aims to tap the potential of increased Arab and Muslim tourists coming into UAE. Earlier many of the Muslim travelers complained that they weren’t able to find any hotel that would guide them about prayer timings, direction of Kiblah, or assist them in finding halal food when asked. The Muslim travelers specially traveling to UAE were frustrated to find nothing of their religion or taste. The travel industry for shariah-compliant hotel has started growing into a multibillion dollar industry as a lot of large hotel groups are putting in large sums of money for providing shariah-compliant hotel facilities.
The lead by Dubai’s hotel industry to provide Shariah-compliant hotel facilities to its travelers might also set as an example for other parts of the world to follow, where they have a lot of Muslim guests staying in their hotels.
Hotel industry experts say that providing shariah-compliant hotel facilities to foreign Muslim travelers is a good move and this is a big sector that hasn’t been fully tapped into so far. It has the capacity to turn around things for the hotel industry in Dubai and the world over.
