More Hotels mean More and Tougher Competition!

There is a mix of both types of news in Dubai Hotels’ market, one is that hotel industry is struggling hard to shake off the effects of global economic recession and the rest of the news is regional hoteliers are recognizing that several new hotels are coming with vast numbers of rooms. It seems an opportunity as compared to a threat; Dubai hotel industry is still strong to welcome new tourists in the region.

During the official tour of The Hotel Show, the Middle East’s leading dedicated trade event for the hospitality and leisure sector, Khalid bin Sulayem, Director General at the Dubai Government’s, Tourism & Commerce Marketing Department commented: “There are between 16,000 and 20,000 hotel rooms to enter the Dubai market by the end of the year, which will contribute to producing lower room rates and attracting more visitors to Dubai.”

Few posts back, we have compared investment rates in different GCC countries which they are going to invest in hospitality sector. One should also keep in mind that all the projects which are already commenced in the region; they are reminders of the happy and healthy economy. While hotel investors are now seriously looking at the critical situation of investment.

If the region is being competitive within its own hospitality sector or to compete globally, RevPar rates should be competitive. This thing can benefit hotel revenues by increasing occupancies but at lower rates. From another point of view, much increase in the hotel rooms can make the region to get a tough competition. The existing hotels will have to work hard to grab the customers at lower rates but at more quality services and the emerging hotels will have to work hard to mark their position. Therefore, the decision of launching new hotels seems to be quite critical. Let’s see what it brings in real to all of us.

Gone are the days when it was said that economic recession has faltered Dubai tourism and hotel industry. Such rumors were spread again and again that Dubai hotels are being operated at much lower occupancy rate that once it had in 2007 or before. According to a recent survey, Dubai is being considered one of the ten most popular and strong tourism sector and favorite holiday destination that is most visited in the world.

Middle East is a famous trade and tourism hub and Dubai is ranked at the top among its regional competitors who left behind all regions in terms of travel, tourism and hospitality sector. One prime reason is that Dubai has transformed itself a lot according to modern era demands and grew well according to international standards which made it susceptible to bear any change in culture. People from different ethnic background got heavily attracted towards it and it accepted that all as challenge.

“The Arabian Travel Market, Dubai Summer Surprises are one of the major tools in supporting Dubai and its vibrant tourism sector and comes directly in line with the chamber’s mission of representing, supporting and protecting the interests of the business community in Dubai and in promoting the emirate as an international business hub,” Dubai Chamber Director-General Hamad Buamim said in a statement.

There is not a single reason that people started visiting Dubai at once. Let’s reveal few of them. The tourism sector can be further subdivided into two rough categories, one is traveling for leisure purposes and the other is for business transaction purpose. Leisure Tourism can be further classified into number of classes like traveling with friends, with family for holidays, or for entertainment, with life partner only or solely for shopping purpose. Dubai has entertained all kind of travelers in a vast category. According to a survey conducted by Dubai department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), about two thirds of the visitors in Dubai are leisure tourists and one third is business travelers.

Tourism sector is not flourished alone but Dubai hotel Industry has played a major role as well as transportation activities led by Dubai airlines industry, shopping malls and other entertainment sectors like resorts, shopping malls and local transportation sectors. It is obvious that the charges of your average stay also depend upon hotel rooms, star rating of hotel, quality of services and the amenities that hotel is offering. Needless to say that a 7 star hotel will charge more than any ordinary hotel as its services will be supreme and quality wise superior. Another major thing is that rates also depend upon the festivals, if Dubai is packed with festival season and more tourists, rates will be obviously at peak.

Cheap hotels are considered to be better option than costlier ones and are more popular among all folks due to financial uncertainty. People are keen to plan holiday breaks but they want to ensure how much they are getting in return of their money. When you are looking for cheap hotels with best facilities, there is a lot of tough competition in tourism field and many hotels are offering bunch of discounts to attract more visitors. Today we are going to sum up the ways how to find out the best one out of these cheap hotels.

First pointer in finding is to be realistic when making a decision in choosing hotel like a cheap 3-star hotel will provide basic facilities but all the hotels in same star ranking will differ widely in offering amenities. All that you must see is that even cheap hotels should be clean, comfortable and meek staff at reception. Sometimes you can also find certain 3-star hotels are providing basic and excellent services like modern and cleaner bedrooms in comparison to branded names. Second thing is the location of your hotel; hotel must be located near to the central places of the city.

A cheap hotel does not mean that it will be always low in star rating; it only means that you are booking a hotel at the best affordable price according to its class and your budget. There are many hotels that are executing their business online so personally when I want to choose the best one, I see the facility page of any hotel and mark my words, if a hotel is not displaying its multiple images, avoid that hotel. The bedroom image would be the best the hotel had to put on the website, as the visitors spend most of their time in bedroom as compared to any other place and if bedroom images are not worthy enough, then don’t think to spend there. It is my experience that if a hotel is proud of its ambiance and facilities, it must display it and if it is not then avoid it at all costs.

A cheap 4-star hotel will also have enough facilities but it hardly includes leisure activities. It is good to book a cheap 4-star hotel because it is somewhat better than 3 or low star rating hotels in terms of facilities, services, security and comfort and give a good return of your money.
